Control The Weather
02:23
|
|||
When I get back home we're gonna go for a drive
When I made you that promise I was barely alive
But I meant it
It's getting real late and I'd hate to let you down
This nights been long and you're still around
And I need you
My friends just broke my wall
It's so hard for me to recall
How everything went down that night
But it's over now and we're alright
Sitting here with you lost all track of time
My friend left us and didn't say goodbye
But that's okay...yea its alright
Rushing back home, running down the street
Tried to keep up with my mind on the cold concrete
But I'm home now...yea I'm home
I've moved somewhere new
I tell you the sky is always blue
But that's a lie and you should know better
Without you here I can't Control The Weather

Disappearing Boy
03:13
|
|||
I used to know a kid
He was quiet and collected
At least that's how he seemed
He used to show up nowhere
Be a shadow in a corner
With a crowd the doesn't speak
What can we offer him?
It's nothing we can see
Did he want to be light-less, hidden out of sight...or did he just want to be seen?
Did he want to be invisible, the color of my window that looks out to the street?
He left without a warning
He left without a sign
Now he fights in the heat
Does this make him feel completed, did he leave because he was missing something we take for granted, another person to listen or a quiet place to sleep?
What can we take from him?
It's nothing that we need
Did he want to be light-less, hidden out of sight, or did he just want to be seen?
Did he want to be a speck upon a ball (beyond the dip of bell-)
Or did we all just misconceive him?
I wonder if we will ever hear from him again
I guess we will have to wait and see...

My Painting
04:02
|
|||
Cheap flights and holidays are two ways to get home
When you're stuck in a position, like your grass has overgrown
Your telephone signal was weak
The words you spoke were soft
I was trying not to sleep
My mind was turning off
A dark figure at the top of a mountain where he stands
You can see him in the distance with a paintbrush in his hand
The blues and reds and yellows are all spiraling together
Making a poem in the sky
Based upon the weather
Then he reaches out his hand
In an attempt to grab the colors
That surround him in this mess
As he's trying to discover
What makes them so different
What makes them so bright
How they make him want to live and how they make him want to die
While I'm just sitting here
Waiting for the fog to clear
I've been waiting for years
For the sun to appear
Show it's face
Make things bright again
Instead of dead...I can feel alive
It's me versus the sun and I think I've lost the fight
The snow is melting quick
Flooding in the streets
My reflection in the ground
Like I'm walking through a stream
The season's coming to a close
The winter went real fast
My clock is moving forwards
As time is rolling back
I'm done waiting here
The fog has started to clear
I've been waiting too long
To see the sun
Show it's face
Make things bright again
Instead of dead...I will feel alive
It's me versus the sun and I think I've lost the fight

Raindrops
04:00
|
|||
I've been thinking too much as I try to sleep. I've been waking up at night trying to keep that sleepy feeling in my brain. I have been waiting way too long to get on this train.
I've been letting go too much in my dreams. Well, most of the time they are real (at least that is how it seems). Like that time at the end of the world with me and my friends, a ship and a girl.
When the raindrops fall around do they ever hit the ground or do they all just land on you?
I've been drifting too much when I'm out at sea. Losing track of the stars constantly. The night is dark and the wind is high. I would ask the open water (for her advice) but she gives me no reply.
(When the trees all sway around, do they ever make a sound, or do they fall silently...just like me and you)
When the raindrops fall around do they ever hit the ground, or do they all just land on you?

What Do You Want
04:06
|
|||
Melinda knows there’s nothing here now so she goes to sleep alone
But when she wakes the brightness of another day will find her here
She’ll say what do you want from
Say it what you want from me
When she smiles and looks at me I turn away because I’ve got no reason to stay anymore
I’ll say what do you want from
Say it what you want from me
You’re the last fallen leaf to land in the snow
You’re the only red robin still waiting to go
You’re that lonely chord that couldn’t fit in the song
You’re stuck behind bars but you did nothing wrong
You’re at a loss for words but you’re up on stage
You say you’re as free as a bird but you’re locked in a cage
What Do You Want From Me?

Closer Now
03:47
|
|||
Flashing lights and worn out pillows by my feet I tried to make you sing
Was it foolish did I tell myself before that I would wait until spring
The days grew long
I kept playing your song
Waiting for the flowers to open up their eyes again to see the sun (after a long cold sleep with the darkness)
You were walking over gliding city streets and I was catching you
The lights were dancing off your coat now to the beat and it was all in tune
The cutting air
Counting steps until we’re there
We are getting closer now
To that place I want to see
Meant for you but not for me
To that room I long to go
You by my side no not alone
To that tower built on trust
Say it’s just for you and not for us
I can build it taller than it ever was before
I’m feeling closer now
To that place I want to see
Meant for you and meant for me
To your heart I want to hold
In my hands to keep it from the cold
To your love I want to feel
Spin it closer make it real
Watch it grow and watch it shine
Never have to say goodbye

Hands Raised High
04:44
|
|||
I brewed the tea you gave to me
It left me feeling dead and weak
Like fresh picked berry from rotten daphne tree
I poured it in your mother’s cup
And then you watched me drink it up
As you sat there holding your stare at the yellow bus
It drove past your home
As I was lying on the ground
Dying, searching for someone to hold
And you walked right over me
Like a kid hopping a creek
The thin part of the stream it was an easy feat
Now that I’m dying
And now that I’m gone
How will they remember me
If you’re the last one
To tell my story of how I left
And to write it all down in a letter to send
Will you lie
You let me die
With my hands raised high
On your wooden floor I’ve never felt so cold
I grab the rug for warmth and color
To fill my mind and eyes with something other
Than you, and my life that’s gone
Shorter than any country song
Before I started the record it was already done
Now that its over
Now that I’m dead
Who will fill my covers
Who will sleep in my bed
Next to you and bathe in the water that kept me warm
In the same house that kept me safe and dry from the storms
Yea I’m gone

Road Not Taken
03:43
|
|||
You’ve got a guitar in your hand
Looking blue and down again
So give me a call and we can sing it all away
Staring straight ahead
Lying on your broken bed
So drop me a line and we can make it fine today
We can make it fine today
Let’s climb that old apple tree by the Madison Café
We can hang out low or high
With the birds in the sky
Alone and clear and awfully far away
Sitting at your desk
Paper work feeling depressed
Give me a ring and I can bring you up to speed
Booked up all night long
Listening to that old sad song
Give me a buzz because that’s what you really need
That’s what you really need
Let’s take the road not taken and drop some apple seeds
Pray for water pray for rain
The clouds a bottle of champagne
Bubbling up and waiting to pour out love
That’s what you really need
Let’s take the road not taken and get lost like tumbleweeds
Lose the hours drop the days
All we’ve known miles away
Closed eyes and the wind will find us our new home
Close our eyes and let the wind carry us home

Perpetual Morning
04:36
|
|||
I wish I could buy us time
or a glorious distraction
be the first one, on call
Trying to get some satisfaction
As we’re trying to adapt
With this obvious rotation
As we spin around and round and round
In desperation
I’m gonna make each day into a perpetual morning
So whenever I wake up the sun will always be rising
I’m gonna draw a new circle, step out of the old one I’m living
There’s no end in nature, every end is a beginning
Mixed signals bring us
To a foreign path
Deep in the wilderness
Left without a map
The road is well hidden
The trees weep with our steps
They know where we are heading
They know there is no turning back
The pond in the summer time
Can produce a striking glow
But in the midst of winter
It seems daunting, dark cold
I will lay on the ice
And brush off the snow
Feel the winter freeze
On my body and in my soul
I’m gonna make each day into a perpetual morning
So whenever I wake up the sun will always be rising
I’m gonna abandon my direction turn around and cut my losses
Step right on my old worn down footsteps and search for where I started
If it comes
Down to it
Where the road does split
I wont know
What to do
Which way to go
Which side to chose
I’m gonna make each day into a perpetual morning
So whenever I wake up the sun will always be rising
I’m gonna draw a new circle, step out of the old one I’m living
There’s no end in nature, every end is a beginning
The sun will always be rising
Turn around and start running
I’m gonna walk on the horizon
Every end is a beginning

Oh Matchless Love
03:50
|
|||
I came up that hill only to find that you weren’t there.
You left me with nothing. I looked all around and all I found was a prayer, and it read…
“Oh matchless love, oh love divine,
Come dwell in this glad heart of mine.
Thyself reveal, thyself bestow,
In flood-tide waves my soul over flow.”
I started down the mountain, looking for a road, looking for anyone.
The sun setting behind me cast shadows down the hill of the strangest faces.
One looked me in the eye and said, “All is not well, you must leave this place now.”
“Could I thy deepest depths explore,
I know that I should love thee more.
If I thy highest heights could climb,
I'd love Thee with a love sublime.”
I came across a bridge, I couldn’t see the end of it…but I knew I had to cross.
The swaying of the breeze, the laughing of the trees, I just kept on walking (and I heard your voice in the distance)
“Keep your eyes focused on the prize,
Ignore all nature’s strange disguise.
It won’t be long until the end,
It won’t be long until we meet again.”

Crooked Salesman
04:09
|
|||
I won’t be your crooked salesman
I won’t be your thief
Stuck up in a parking lot
Or on the corner of a street
I won’t be you’re crooked salesman
I won’t be your thief
I won’t be your scientist
Of lies and deceit
It seems so different now
Now that I’ve found you out
Now that I know your plan
Now that it’s in my hand
It reads just like a book
Every line is sharp with a hook
Now that I know your plan
Now that it’s in my hand
I won’t be your crooked salesman
I won’t be your ride
Flying down the interstate
With a trunk full of knives
I won’t be your tool to use
I won’t be your ride
I won’t sell your trickery
I won’t sell my pride
It seems so different now
Now that I’ve found you out
Now that I know your scam
Now that it’s in my hands
It reads just like a book
And cheap just like a crook
Now that I know your plan
Now that it’s in my hands

Only One In The World
04:10
|
|||
Walking through a late night parking lot
All the cars are scattered like Pollack Dots
I was the only one in the world
When I left your place tonight
Crossing the Rubicon River
While I tossing around your sisters dice
I hate my house it’s always falling off my street
I can’t live here anymore you said to me
I was the only one in the world when I left your place alone
I didn’t see a single white or red shining light on that long winding road back home
You’ve got love like the loopholes in our legal system
I’m always searching for a way to get out, while you’re staring at your television
You’ve got charm like a fresh new coat of paint
But don’t stare too long, because the colors fade
I was the only one in the world when I left your place tonight
Walking down the road with your dark sunglasses on looking for a fight
The doctor is in the waiting room with a one way mirror
And I’m standing lost in the operating room of a stranger
The doctors in his sleeping bag with an ice cold pillow
And I’m cold and confused over a dying body
I was the only one in the world...

Walk With Me
04:21
|
|||
The street is speaking to my balcony
I'm no one to talk
The old vinyl chairs sit restless through the night
The city people walk
Rush down the street, skipping over broken cobblestones
Pass by a man, who's broken and alone
Avert their eyes from his shelter of debris
Ignore his burning stare and see what they want to see
Wont you...
Come walk with me down the road
Find that old poor man in tattered cloths
Fill his cup and treat him right
Take him out on the town with us tonight
I watched the sunrise
Through my cracked blinds from the side streets
Of the city
Under gray skies, as the birds fly
One lands on my balcony
We share a moment, a smile and a grin
Both of us just waiting for the new day to begin
The narrow streets
Starting to speak, but I’m no one to talk to them
The concrete is incomplete
It needs to be broken in again
So the workers and the children
Start opening their doors
The city streets are flooding
Like a gutter in a storm
So won’t you
Come float with me down the stream
Catch the light like a figure 8 that’s gleaming
Make up some rules, but really what’s the use
When the city is our captain, and the current is our crew
The street is speaking to me currently
And it’s taking up my time
Even though I’ve got much more than I’ll ever need
I’ve been told that it’s wise
To save it all up
Don’t spend it all to fast
They say time is money so
Make it last
But I’ve been
Throwing my cash
Out the window and onto the floor
Because when I’m where I want to be I wont need it anymore

Hotel Happiness
02:53
|
|||
Forget all your systematic plans
And all of your notebooks left in the sand
Forget all your boyfriends who fly planes
With their hotel happiness to cover their face
Forget all your fifth avenue glamor
And all of your upright English grammar
Forget all those stories that you love to tell me
And all of those open arms you try to sell me
Cause you know
I’m a sucker for a star to follow
Even when I know it’s gonna leave me hollow
We’re always dying for what we can’t have
On a ladder reaching for what we can’t grab
So come on hold me or just give me a sign
Show me something to let me know that you’re mine
Walk through the door with your favorite design
I’ll tell what it’s worth yea I’ll tell you what it’s worth
Up on Monday was the name of the book that you said went straight to your head
Now it’s a week since Monday and all the jokes are the same but you blame me for going insane?
So come on hold me or just give me a sign
Move a little closer and let me know that your mine
You’ve got me pouring this fine bottle of wine
I’ll show you what it’s worth yea ill show you what it’s worth
So come on baby now just give me some time
I wanna teach you how to get outta line and I’m
Inside your head just like a nursery rhyme
I’ll show you what it’s worth yea I’ll show you what it’s worth

Not That Simple
02:58
|
|||
It wasn’t what you thought you took it’s not that simple
There's a bigger part to everything
You can’t just grab a heart and make it start or stop
It’s beating and leaning on you
It’s beating and leaning on you
I wasn’t who you thought I was you said I’m not that simple
There's a hidden part in me and everything
You can’t just grab a line and make it stop in time
It’s fleeting and weaving through you
It’s fleeting and misleading you
Soon you’re gonna find yourself walking alone
Lost and small like a tiny grain of sand
Will you wonder then just where you were when would call for you
Will you wish that you could still come grab my hand?
I wasn't where you thought I was you said it’s not that simple
There's a different kind of place that’s in the air
You can’t just make a move and try to lose yourself
You’ve got not more time to spare
You’ve got no more time to spare
Soon you’re gonna find yourself walking alone
Lost and tired like a sailor looking for land
On a starless night will you wonder then if we will still call for you
Do you wish that you could still come grab my hand?

Nothing But The Road
03:50
|
|||
One time for the broken hearted
One time for the many nights I tried to save you
Here's one for the lost and lonely
Here's one for the rainy walks we love to take alone
Now it's time for me to go on home
And you to find a place that you can call your own
Now it's time for me to leave you here
And you to find someone like me to help you dry those tears
One time for the same old ending
One time for the lovely lines you spill into my head
Here's one 'cause I know you want it
Here's one 'cause you got it and I'd give it all again
Now it's time for me to go on home
And you to find someone like me when you're feeling alone
You say that you've got someone you can trust
But is that enough when you want someone to love?
You can find it here
Now it's time for me to go on home
Leave this city with nothing but the road
Now it's time and you just turn away
As I smile and wave good bye
You've got nothing to say
I'm leavin'

All Shaken
02:52
|
|||
We're all shaken
Waves are breakin'
On our sides...we're watching the shore
The tide is shifting
Moon is lifting
Up our hands...only to remind us that
We're on a path
The road is glass
Our shoes are thinning...an expensive loss
Like our last meal
Hands on the wheel
To steer us home...both our eyes closed
And I want you to know
This place is coming undone brick by brick
You don't want this.
When you gonna cut it out?
Feeling so Feeling so...
Feeling so Feeling so...
Rattlesnakes
Soft Earthquakes
Shooting Guns...I'm feeling lost
Rainy weather
Twisted Feathers
From your hair, with your hand in mine
And I don't want you to see
My face is coming undone blink by blink
You don't want this.
When you gonna shut it out?
Feeling so Feeling so...
Feeling so Feeling so...

Let's Pretend
03:51
|
|||
Let’s pretend that we’ve still got something that we wanna give
This open field keeps on telling me that I’m just a kid
Loosing spirit like a preacher that’s dying
Let’s pretend that we’re not lost and we’re not alone
But this fading map won’t stop screaming out that I’m on my own
The sun is falling like a coin from my pocket
If we all wanted to tear apart
Our love and fears in this parking lot
Scatter them on the road
If we all wanted to go away
Click back until there’s no more yesterdays
You say I wouldn’t mind
You say that would be fine
Let’s pretend that we’re not broken filled with misery
These dusty notebooks are painting pictures of how it used to be
If we all wanted to lose the past
Cut ties and burn all our photographs
You know damn well that’s not enough
The lines we’ve drawn now will last forever
On screens or sunk deep like an ocean treasure
But there’s no gold
Just stories we’ve told
I wouldn’t mind
That would be fine

In The Wash
03:32
|
|||
We were talking like we were kids
About all those things that we never did
Telling stories like this would be the end
Subway's seem to quick
You said good things never stick
Who's to say that's true when we never gave it a chance
So...
Come on over
You 4 leaf clover
On a grassy field as we lay out in the sun
You're my sweet maneuver
My lucky little user
You said that love comes out so easily in the wash
We were walking like we were lost
Over bridges we shouldn't have crossed
Dropping letters in the waterfalls and ruins
The sky was a swimming pool
You were looking pretty cool
As you dove right in a broke me like a wave
So...
Come on over
Stop dancing on my shoulder
Chipping away at all I've got and what I've done
You're my coin to bury
My head that I couldn't carry
Love come's out so easily...
This book is old
It's getting cold and lonely on the top of the shelf
Covered with photo's in frames
Lovely portraits that fade
And tattooed notebooks filled with lines and rhymes and times and lives and lies and crimes
So...
Come on over
Now that we're a little bit older
Snap your fingers here and bum yourself a smoke
You're my car to steal
That dream I'll never feel (that's real)
Love comes out so easily
You're...
My floor to lie on
That bed I wanna die on
My bell to ring
That song I'll never ring
My hand to shake
That heart I couldn't break
But love come out so easily
In The Wash

I Saw You
03:12
|
|||
I saw you in a field
I saw you on a steamboat
I saw you on a bridge
I saw you with a man with no face
I saw you on a train
Just staring out the window
Up against the glass
Eyes revealing stories of pain grace and love
So what did you do on those days you spent by the water?
What did you see on those nights you spent on the sand?
I saw you on a trip
I saw you with a bible
Pouring through the pages
Looking for an answer
Praying for a clue
I saw you with a knife
I saw you with a bottle
I saw you stepping out
You didn't step back in...you just fell to the ground
There was no one there to catch you
There was no one there to see
There was no one there to witness
No one there but me

Not Much
03:53
|
|||
Open your eyes
Everything you see
The fresh cut marble
The Scattered Debris
This is what we chose to leave
Yea this is what we chose to leave
It’s not much
This I know
The trees are waiting silent for something that’s less violent (to them)
And they don’t
Miss us no
No more blue skies just satellites (floating around)
Underneath
Thick metal doors
You’ll find the treasures
Of ancient wars
This is why we’re dead and gone
Yea this is why we’re all dead and gone
It’s not much
This I know
The trees are waiting silent for something that’s less violent (to them)
They don’t
wanna hear
Our apologies are written
It’s too late to be forgiven
Please hear what I say
Don’t make the same mistakes
One is all it takes
Please read what I wrote
To you
Take it to heart
What you see is all true

Hit The Water
02:44
|

I see you in the corner feeling rusty
Come on get your body moving
One step closer come on over take it slower
Let the lights consume you
You're dressed the part
I see your heart it's falling off your shoulder
Your sneakers match your eyes
Tell me can you see
Take off your shades, let's leave this place and pick any direction.
We'll walk 'till we hit the water
I see you in the corner feeling lonely
Looking down yea you're looking so sad.
Could you come on over take one step closer take it slow
Let the lights consume you
You're dressed the part
I see your heart can you take it off your shoulder
I'd feel real bad if I saw it on the floor
Take off your shades, let me see your face, let's pick any direction.
We'll walk 'till we hit the water
We'll walk 'till we hit the sea

Telling me that you’ve got some
That you've got got someone to hold your hand
Wont change this conversation
Conversation that we never have
Train rides and blurry photos
late night walking, talking to the sea
Might loosen these city chains
I’m still out here looking for the key
Concrete lines and movie stars
Are nice but they’re not real
Could you come on a little closer now
And really show me how you feel
Telling me that you’re moving
Moving on real soon but you can’t say where
Won’t change these clouded visions
That surround us hanging in the air
Long walks and neon lighting
I’m rewriting everything I know
Draw up a new beginning
Tending every line and every note
Concrete lines and movie stars
Are nice but they’re not real
Could you come a little closer now
Show me how you feel
City lights and green roof tops
Are nice but they’re not real
Could come a little closer now
Show me how you feel
Skyscrapers and Van Gogh’s night sky
Are nice but they’re not real
Could you come a little closer now
Really show me how you feel
And then you said...
Concrete lines and movie stars
Are nice but they’re not home
Come on take me by the hand
Tell me I’m not alone
Cause I miss those open roads that wander
I miss laying on the lawn
The scent of my old basement room
Like you said...we’re moving on

This Is Me
03:01
|

This is me as a statue
Crumbling around your town
This is me trying to catch you
Stuck in concrete...upside down =(
This is me as a statue
Crumbling around your town
This is me trying to detach myself from you
I always wanted you to haunt me
So I couldn't fall asleep
I'd be up all night searching
For something in the sheets
This is me as a stoplight
Broken
Stuck on red all day
This is me with an invite
Asking you to turn away
This is me as a stoplight
Broken
Stuck on red all day
This is me closing my eyes
To let you get away
I always wanted you to haunt me
I swear I didn't wanna fall asleep
We can stay up all night searching
For something in the sheets
Something close to me
